Structural Material Manager's labels contain such information as piece mark, length, weight, project name, contract number, etc. The exact information appearing on the label varies depending on which type of label listed above is being printed.
No barcodes or QR codes appear on the labels. That is a feature that E.J.E. Industries likely will incorporate into a future Structural Material Manager upgrade, but currently no such codes are printed.
Before the release of Version 20.0, the software’s labeling feature was implemented via dot-matrix printing technology. Labels were generated on a dot-matrix printer equipped with an indelible-ink ribbon and loaded with all-weather label stock.
An enormous improvement in the Version 20.0 upgrade now provides the ability to print to industrial label printers using thermal-transfer technology. Such modern units are both incredibly fast and nearly silent as compared to dot-matrix printers. They print a very durable image by the very nature of how heat is used to transfer ribbon material onto the weatherproof label surface.
Of course Structural Material Manager Version 20.0 still supports dot-matrix printing of labels for those who have committed to that technology. However, thermal-transfer is definitely the way to go for users who did not implement dot-matrix technology and are now ready to begin printing labels. Thermal-transfer is also the technology of choice for those who currently use dot-matrix label printers but are now ready to upgrade to a more industrial label-printing experience.
Next-Generation Programming Language Compiler: The programming language in which the software is written has constantly evolved since its introduction in 1983 (a couple years before Structural Material Manager itself debuted). Every so many years, the language makes a large leap forward in terms of performance, and such a major revision was released in October of 2024. Structural Material Manager Version 20.0 was recompiled under the new language version for the best possible performance.
From a programming standpoint, Windows 10 and 11 essentially represent “moving targets” due to the manner in which Microsoft's constant updates introduce subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) behavior changes. Compiling Structural Material Manager in the latest language version guarantees not just great performance but also the ultimate compatibility with Microsoft's latest Windows updates.
